Jeg vil udfordre en almindelig antagelse: at registrering af din cykel
Iām going to challenge a common assumption: that registering your bike is a hassle, and it wonāt make a difference in preventing theft. As someone whoās passionate about cycling and frustrated with the lack of action against bike thieves, I used to think the same. But hereās the thing: every year, thousands of bikes are stolen in Australia, and the police often canāt do much to help.
In fact, I recently spoke to a cyclist who had his bike stolen from a locked garage. The police took a report, but he never saw his bike again. It was a pricey, high-end bike, and he was devastated. But then he told me that he hadnāt registered his bike. If he had, the police might have been able to recover it.
Registering your bike is a simple process that can be done online, and itās free. By doing so, youāre creating a record of ownership that can be used to identify your bike if itās stolen and recovered. Itās not a guarantee, of course, but itās a crucial step in protecting your property.
Iāve seen the impact of bike registration firsthand. A friend of mine had her bike stolen, but because it was registered, the police were able to track it down and return it to her. It was a huge relief, and it made her realize the importance of registration.
So, if youāre a cyclist, donāt assume that registering your bike is a waste of time. Take the few minutes to do it, and youāll be helping to create a safer, more accountable community for all of us. And if youāre already a member of the stolen bike register, share this with your friends and family who cycle ā letās work together to make our bikes less appealing to thieves.
